Peter Christensen, PhD Candidate in Architecture, has authored an article for the International Journal of Islamic Architecture, Volume 1 Issue 2. The article, entitled “Dam Nation: Imaging and Imagining the ‘Middle East’ in Herman Sörgel’s Atlantropa,” augments existing German language scholarship on this interwar proposal to dam the Mediterranean and to create a new “Eurafrican” geopolitical body by looking specifically at previously unpublished designs for the Islamic port cities of North Africa. The research for this article was conducted collaterally to dissertation research at the Deutsches Museum archives in Munich while on a Fulbright scholarship to Germany for the 2011-12 academic year.
