ChinaGSD Hosts Professor Peter Rowe

In a recent presentation titled “Some Snapshots,” Peter Rowe (professor of architecture and urban design and former GSD dean) gave some insight into his vast research on the history of urban housing types and developments in China. The public lecture was sponsored by the ChinaGSD student group, which brings different disciplines together through social and academic events.
ChengHe Guan (DDes) commented, “The lecture combined housing typology cases and quantitative analysis, which gave very insightful explanations of China’s urbanization process of the last two decades. Especially relating to the urban slum issues, the quantitative consideration of growth rates and housing policies revealed the reason behind the absence of informal settlements.”
