GSD alums finalists in Van Alen Institute” Ground/Work” competition

Collective-LOK, formed by Jon Lott (MArch ’05), William O’Brien Jr. (MArch ’05) and Michael Kubo (MArch ’06) was recently chosen as one of three finalists for Ground/Work, a design competition for Van Alen Institute’s new street-level space. The group is one of three finalists from a pool of more than 100 teams. Designers up to 10 years out of school were invited to submit their work and qualifications in order to be considered. The finalists will present their proposals in September 2013, with construction expected to begin in winter of 2013.

The mission of the Van Alen Institute, an independent nonprofit architectural organization, is “to promote innovative thinking about the role of architecture and design in civic life.” The finalists will be transforming the offices and event spaces of the existing building housing the Van Alen Institute, to make room for its entire organization.
