Spark Grant awarded to Michael Van Valkenburgh for GSD master class

Michael Van Valkenburgh, the Charles Eliot Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture, has received a Spark Grant from the Harvard Institute for Teaching and Learning (HILT). The grant will support the development of a new master class that will focus on an interdisciplinary investigation into the nature of creativity. The class will pair leaders in the field of landscape architecture with Harvard faculty from the GSD across the university in an effort to explore themes of originality, authenticity, and invention in the creative process, with special emphasis on whether, and how, creativity can be taught.

HILT’s Spark Grants are designed to “help ‘spark’ promising teaching and learning projects from idea to reality,” with the goal of producing “models that can be shared and implemented on a broader scale for the betterment of the Harvard community and position innovations for future success.” Read about the HILT Spark Grant in the Harvard Gazette.
