Mining her success: Xiaoxuan Lu gives Yixi talk

Xiaoxuan Lu (MLA ’12) has become a bit of a celebrity as a result of her YIXI talk (similar to TED Talks) in January. Combining her Penny White Fund research and her ASLA award-winning thesis, Lu’s talk was posted last weekend to YOUKU, the largest Chinese video-sharing website, where it was on the front page for 2 days and had almost 1 million viewers in less than a week.

Lu’s GSD research, “Mining and Demining,” reimagined mining and bomb removal in Laos using on-site resources; her thesis advisor was Pierre Belanger (associate professor of landscape architecture), Since taking her MLA in 2012, she’s been working as column editor for Landscape Architecture Frontiers and is currently a visiting scholar at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. She is also in a PhD program at Peking University with Dr. Kongjian Yu, and she’ll be back at the GSD this year through 2016 as a special doctoral student.
