Ressearch projects by two recent GSD grads were featured in the February issue of Landscape Architecture Frontiers.
Alexander Arroyo’s (MLA ’13) essay, “The High Coast: Toward an Altitudinal Economy of Snow,” describes his studies surrounding the urban agency of snow in the American Sierra Nevadas. The paper introduces a set of new speculative narratives on the future of different montane and alpine regions in California, Nevada and Utah.
Daia Stutz’s (MAUD ’13) essay, “Alps as Process—Engaging montane Switzerland as an Operating Urban Ecology,” describes his examination of the Alps as an urbanized territory currently undergoing fundamental transformations. The paper suggests a radical rethinking of the Alps as an operating urban ecology in transition.
Professor Pierre Belanger served as thesis advisor to both Arroyo and Stutz, who are now Lead Landscape Cartographer and Project Architect at OPSYS and Research Assistant at the Institute of Landscape Architecture, ETH Zurich, respectively.
