Artist and MacArthur Fellow Rick Lowe (LF 02) to speak at GSD’s 2015 Class Day

Artist Rick Lowe, a pioneer in public art and founder of Houston-based initiative Project Row Houses, will be the speaker at the GSD’s 2015 Class Day on Wednesday, May 27, addressing the Class of 2015 and their families. A 2002 Loeb Fellow and 2014 MacArthur Fellow, Lowe has incited art-driven community revitalization projects across the country and inspired artists to explore more socially engaged applications of their work. With Project Row Houses, Lowe offers a groundbreaking model of urban renewal through public art, helping to revive one of Houston’s most historic African-American neighborhoods while expanding the definition of art and its role in social activism and empowerment.
