Ali Malkawi and the energy-positive, living-laboratory HouseZero featured as Forbes’ Daily Cover Story

Professor Ali Malkawi and the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities (CGBC)’s HouseZero were featured as the February 13, 2019, Daily Cover Story at Forbes.com. In addition to choosing HouseZero as the magazine’s homepage spotlight, Forbes shared a video about the energy-positive, living-laboratory created through a retrofit of a 1940s house just steps away from Gund Hall.

“This structure is the first attempt for us to be able to understand the complex behavior of buildings,” says Malkawi. “We are trying to capture that, analyze it, build software to allow us to command it in a very gentle way—to help rather than to disassociate us from the outside and from the conditions that we are dealing with.”

Led by Malkawi, the CGBC unveiled HouseZero last December. The ambitious prototype for ultra-efficiency was designed to help us to understand buildings in new ways. Snøhetta was the project’s lead architect and Skanska Teknikk Norway was the lead energy engineer. Learn more
