A Practical Guide to Shared Housing: How to design, finance and build small residential communities
Eli Spevak, Loeb Fellow
Jan 13, 15, 16, 10-1
This will be a 3-session crash course in the development of small, in-fill residential communities. We will review community-oriented housing options at a range of scales, including pocket neighborhoods, traditional cohousing, converted apartments, primary + accessory dwelling units, detached bedroom clusters, group houses, and homes-on-wheels. Land use regulations, design considerations, financial & legal structures, social/demographic factors, and project budgets will be covered for each project type. We will also walk through the development process from concept, group formation and land acquisition through move-in.
Starting in the 2nd session and wrapping up in the 3rd, each participant will have a chance to sketch out a shared housing model they would personally like to launch and/or live in some day.
