Description:
This course will serve as a think tank to produce ideas for an abandoned school in Brownsville, Brooklyn, a neighborhood with the highest density of public housing in the nation. The school, closed during New York\’s planned shrinkage era in the early 70\’s, will be reinvented into a Wellness Center that will be a catalyst for health and cultural revitalization within the community.

This course will explore the role of social memory and historic preservation in place-making in our post-industrial world, overview examples of best practices in contemporary architecture, and provide resources for investigating and developing a language of preservation in practice. These resources will take the form of tutorials and take away case studies.
