Founding Practices

The objective of this seminar/workshop is to equip individuals who aspire to found a design practice with the basic knowledge and tools required to conceptualize and plan such an undertaking. This is a hands-on class designed to reveal the \”nuts-and-bolts\” workings of emergent practices, the personalities, ideas, skills and commitments that make them viable, and the realities of a competitive global marketplace.This seminar is structured around a series of key discussion topics, related research, readings and assignments. Students will develop a practice plan of their own as a semester project.Regular class attendance and participation are required. Enrollment is limited to 20 students and is open to all degree program candidates in the GSD. Prerequisite for first professional degree students (MAR I and MLA I): 3rd semester standing or beyond.
