Bernardo Secchi, Paola Viganò: “Modification. Texts and projects”

Starting in 1980, over a period of fifteen years, Bernardo Secchi and Vittorio Gregotti published a series of articles in the journal Casabella that set the terms of a debate in Italian architecture culture. What were the parameters of that debate? What has remained interesting, and what has been abandoned or recovered, in the intervening years and up to the present day?
This seminar will present and explore this debate. Bernardo Secchi will speak about key concepts, making reference to a selection of the articles. Topics will include his theory of “modification” and theory of the suolo (soil) and political engagement. In parallel, Paola Viganò will present projects with a connection to these concepts, from her collaboration with Bernardo Secchi.
A discussion and conversation with Mohsen Mostafavi will follow in which the audience is encouraged to participate. A selection of the articles that will be discussed may be downloaded in PDF format:
