Jeff Speck, “Walkable City”

GSD alum Jeff Speck will be talking about his new book, Walkable City, How Downtown Can Save America One Step at a Time.  The event is free, and will be held at the Somerville Theatre next to the Davis Square MBTA stop at 6:30 pm on Thursday the 29th.

Jeff is the co-author of the landmark bestseller Suburban Nation, and is a city planner who advocates for smart growth and sustainable design.  As the former director of design at the National Endowment for the Arts, he oversaw the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, where he worked with dozens of Amercian mayors on their most pressing city planning challenges.  He leads a design practice in Washington, DC.

This event is coordinated with a trip to Boston where Jeff will be participating in a planning charrette for the City of Somerville, assisting with the design of neighborhoods around future Green Line stations in Somerville’s neighborhoods.  For more information, see: www.somervillebydesign.com

Co-sponsored by WalkBoston along with the City of Somerville and the New England chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
