Lewis Jones and Giles Smith are members of Assemble, a multidisciplinary collective of eighteen members working across architecture, design, and art. Founded in 2010 to undertake a single self-built project, Assemble has delivered a diverse, award-winning body of work, meanwhile retaining a democratic and co-operative working method that supports built, social and research-based projects at various scales. The firm is committed to the practice of making things happen as well as making things; its work has ranged from child-run adventure playgrounds in East Glasgow to open-access workshops in North East London, involving a number of scales, types and communities. In 2015 Assemble was awarded the Turner Prize, an annual award given to a single British artist under 50, which it has used as a platform to launch Granby Workshop, a social enterprise in Liverpool supporting hand-made products for homes. Supported by the Rouse Visiting Artist Program.
