Brown Bag Lunch Lecture with Charles A. Setchell, Senior Shelter, Settlements, and Hazard Mitigation Advisor at USAID.
The GSD MDesS Risk and Resilience track warmly invites you to a talk by Charles A. Setchell, Senior Shelter, Settlements, and Hazard Mitigation Advisor at USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). Since his arrival at OFDA in 1998, Setchell has played a crucial role in designing and implementing shelter and settlements projects as well as disaster risk reduction (DRR) activities in response to major international disasters and crises, ranging from the 2010 Haiti earthquake to ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. Drawing on examples of recent projects, Setchell will discuss the contemporary challenges faced by humanitarian actors who operate in complex and fragile urban settings. Setchell holds graduate degrees in urban and environmental planning from UC Berkley and MIT, and has lectured extensively in both the United States and Europe.
