Is a new journal on architecture and critical conservation theory founded and edited by GSD students. This journal is born by identifying a void in the conservation field and recognizing the necessity and desire to fill areas in the field that lack deep conversation. Reduced to a technical task that ignores its philosophical dimension, or to aesthetic justifications that mask political decisions, conservation practice has remained under-theorized for almost a century. It is time for a change.
The presentation of the first volume consists of four theoretical propositions and their illustration through contemporary architectural examples, addressing the contested realms of history, memory, identity, and autonomy. This will be followed by a response by Prof. Michael Hays and PhD students and an open discussion with the audience.
The event will take place on November 16th from 6:30-8:00pm at the Harvard Graduate School of Design at Stubbins room (48 Quincy St. Cambridge, MA).
