Fernanda Canales holds a PhD from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Spain, an MA from the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña in Barcelona, and a Bachelor´s Degree in Architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Her work has been distinguished with several international awards, such as the Emerging Voices Award from The Architectural League of New York in 2018. She was named by The New York Times one of the 10 Women “Changing the Landscape of Leadership” in 2021, and is author of the books Mi casa, tu ciudad (Puente Editores, 2021), Shared Structures, Private Spaces (Actar, 2020), Vivienda Colectiva en México (Gustavo Gili, 2017), and Architecture in Mexico 1900-2010 (Arquine, 2013).

Her work has been widely exhibited, among other venues, at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, The ifa-gallerie in Stuttgart, the Venice Biennale, and The Royal Academy of the Arts in London.  She has been Visiting Faculty member at Princeton School of Architecture (Fall 2021), Yale (Fall 2019), and the Architectural Association in London. She received the Career Award and the Best Young Architect Award in Mexico (Colegio de Arquitectos de México), and received a research Grant to Individuals by The Graham Foundation (2022), the fellowship of Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, and the National System of Creators in Mexico.
