Design Critic in Landscape Architecture

Tom is one of the leading design landscape architects in the country. Tom received his MLA from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1986. In 1992 he was awarded the prestigious Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. In 2002 Tom was awarded Fellowship from the ASLA, the highest honor achievable in this professional organization. In 2021, Tom received the 2021 Design Medal from American Society of Landscape Architects awarded to an individual whose work is deemed extraordinary and award winning for a 10-year period. Tom’s interest in art and his passion for design are fueled by a commitment to excellence and innovation. Tom brings over 40 years of experience at a variety of project scales. His belief in the collaborative process has yielded positive results and international recognition as an innovator when it comes to solving complex site design challenges. The studio he established in 1998, O2 Design (formerly oslund.and.associates), consistently produces award-winning works, most recently for their work on the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis Minnesota, and the Northwestern University Hospital Lake Forest Campus Master Plan and Site Design in Lake Forest Illinois.
