fac_pub_bechthold_tracesThis publication documents the results of the research-based, advanced studio TRACES taught in the spring of 2010 at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. TRACES explored the design of a museum without artifacts through the study of immersive projection environments. Based on the premise that design strategies must simultaneously consider both the projected content and the physical nature of the spatial environment students were asked to first conduct experiments that linked digitally generated content to prototypical projection experiments. The virtual and physical experiments established a language of design that was then tested in the context of a new Genocide museum for Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
