C. David Tseng

David Tseng is a University Chair Professor of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Previously, he served as the Chair Professor and Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as the Director of the Transdisciplinary Design Innovation Shop at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.

Under his leadership, the university team won the Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE) in 2014 and the Middle East in 2018. The team achieved success once again in SDE 21>22, receiving recognition in the categories of Architecture, Urban Design, Innovation, Energy Efficiency, Creative Solution, and Popular Choice. David and his team also represented Taiwan at the 2016 Venice Biennial International Architecture Exhibition. These works not only showcased his commitment to sustainability and innovation but also demonstrated achievements in design excellence.

David has served as the Consultant General of the Built Environment to the Mayors of the cities of Taichung and Taipei. His dedication to design excellence played a pivotal role in the realization of significant public projects, including the Taipei Performing Arts Center (Rem Koolhaas/OMA), the Taichung Metropolitan Opera House (Toyo Ito), the Taoyuan Museum of Art (Riken Yamamoto), and the Taichung Gateway Park (Stan Allen).

As a practicing architect and the founder of CitiCrafts, an architectural office that received an Emerging Talent award from the Taiwanese Institute of Architects, David’s design work consecutively won top prizes in the first and second biennial Taiwan Architecture House Award. His work has been featured in international journals such as Architecture+Urbanism, Plan, Architecture and Progressive Architecture, Dialogue, and Taiwan Architecture.

David holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 2017, the French government bestowed upon him the title of Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his significant contributions to art, architecture, and culture.
